Connect with Nature

It all begins with nature. Walking in nature is a balm for the stormy soul and a breath of air for the clouded mind. The benefits of nature have be touted far and wide. I believe this need to be in nature comes from deep within where our ancestors are calling us to return to the earth.

How do we connect with the earth and ourselves? Through a process known as “earthing.” Think of your feet sending energy roots into the center of the earth and grounding you with every step. An exchange happens when we touch the dirt, especially if we are barefoot (or wearing grounding shoes).

We belong to the Earth. We have a connection that needs to be tended to. Here is an earthing rituals that I love to incorporate on my walks.

Growing Roots

You can do this either standing or sitting and close your eyes if needed. Draw your energy down to the root chakra, into the legs, and the feet. Feel your breath and with each breath out, sink deeper and deeper into the feel of the earth beneath you, where it is touching your body, and allow yourself to be held by the grounding energy beneath you.

Allow the earth to absorb your worries and stress, send your negative thoughts and feelings to be cradled by the earth. Still feeling your breath, visualize the energy of the earth drawing up through the roots, filling you with peace and resillience, rebalancing your equilibrium.

Maintain this connection as long as you need until you are fully immersed in the present. When its time, thank the Earth for its vital energy and support.

Pro tip: Try this exercise with your eyes open, just taking in all around you, only observe. When you notice you are judging or your mind is wandering, observe this, then bring your thoughts and feelings back to the now.
